Public Information Specialist, Wayne County Commission

Function as liaison between media and Commission. Work closely with the Chairman of the Commission to ensure that the Commission’s legislative agenda is put forth publicly. Provide the Commission’s 15-member board with services such as press releases, news articles, speeches, press conferences, and mass correspondence.

Maintain the Commission’s website and ensure that all documents and agendas are updated in a timely manner.

* Developed and maintained product’s “voice” for all website content

* Oversaw and approved all changes and updates to company website; worked closely with web designer to ensure look was professional and clean

* For print, worked with Creative Director, Editorial Directors and Production Director to facilitate all aspects of design and editorial process.

Under my leadership, editorial quality rose significantly and the magazine took on more of a Sports Illustrated-type look. Trained interns, enabling them to contribute editorially and from a marketing standpoint, to expose them to the world of publishing and small business.

March 2004 to January 2006

Staff writer, Motor City Sports Magazine (www.motorcitysports.net ONLY, until October 2005, when it became a print magazine)

* While a website, contributed weekly columns

* After becoming a magazine, wrote monthly column and stories as assigned

Consistently met deadlines with clean, crisp copy and on more than one occasion bailed out the editor by producing quality material with less than 48 hours notice, in emergency situations.

July 2004 to April 2005

Publicity director, American Cellular Donation Organization (Warren, MI)

* Responsible for building client base from scratch for nonprofit organization

* Wrote press releases and web content that directly influenced increase in company’s image

* Was company spokesperson thru interviews with media

Developed a press release writing style that strayed from formula and found its way into various websites and newspapers, generating interest in the company. Brought the start-up project from nothing to local prominence.

May 1986 to October 1998

Comcast Cablevision (various locations in SE Michigan)

* Held variety of jobs, ranging from producer/director to programming manager

* Wrote award-winning scripts, ad copy, speeches, and comedy material

* Produced and/or directed hundreds of local origination television programs, ranging from sporting events to talk shows to election coverage

* Constantly trained and managed interns and contractors; able to seamlessly blend them into the production crew

Won a National Cable ACE Award in 1990 for producing/directing best Local Cable Talk Show in the country. Won Michigan Cable ICE Award in 1994 for sports coverage. Garnered several nominations, both locally and nationally, for production excellence.
